Police probing murder of millionairess Carole Waugh find a body in a lock-up garage in London

Detectives investigating the disappearance of missing oil executive Carole Waugh have found a body they believe to be hers inside a Volkswagen Golf in a lock-up garage in London, Scotland Yard said.

Police made the gruesome discovery in the blue car in Lime Court, New Malden, south west London,on Thursday as the result of police inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane, said on Wednesday that they had reason to believe that the missing millionairess has not been seen alive since April 16.

The body was believed to have been found in this blue VW Golf which was inside the lock-up garage, after police received new information

The registration number of the car is W466 NHL.

Mr McFarlane said: 'We need to hear from anyone with information on the car, particularly since April this year.

'Anyone who can assist us on where it has been since then, or can advise on anyone with a connection to it, should come forward.'

Police are awaiting formal identification of the body, which is due to be carried out this afternoon at Kingston mortuary.

The lock-up is in a row of garages behind two 1930's houses in a quiet street.

One of the garage owners, builder Nick Kerven, said he had first heard about the body this morning. 

He said he had not met the person who had hired the garage and had only spoken to them over the phone, but refused to reveal any further details. 

He said police had spoken to him this morning. He would not give any information about who had hired the lock up.

He said: 'Police spoke to me this morning. 

'I have never met the person who hired it. I just spoke to them on the phone.'

The garage was rented for £135 a month and was described as 'a very secure lock-up garage. Good access and off road. Ideal for garaging car, storage, vintage car etc. Electricity available.'

The driveway leading to the garages was cordoned off this morning, while a white and a blue forensic tent were erected outside one of the garages and a police community support officer stood guard.

Police launched an extensive hunt for the oil executive, who may also have worked as an escort, after her family last saw her in April and reported her missing on May 7.

On Wednesday, detectives confirmed that the disappearance of Ms Waugh, who they were investigating may have been an escort, was now a being treated as a murder investigation. 

It follows the arrest on the same day of a 47-year-old man on suspicion of her murder. 

The man was previously arrested on Tuesday 31 July at Luton Airport, where he was an incoming passenger, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, and on suspicion of kidnap.
